As the first weekend of being a homeowner comes to past I am going to take this time to show what I have all accomplished this weekend.
First task that was completed was the removal of the carpet in the kitchen. The older lady that lived in the house prior didn't like a cold floor so she had carpet installed in the kitchen. I hated it so I ripped it out to see the floor underneath. Turns out there was a layer of linoleum tiles underneath. These were a real treat to remove. A couple hours of scraping and pulling up the tiles and tar paper below revealed a plywood flooring. I had plans to cover this up so I didn't care much. Here are a couple snaps of the flooring while in progress of removing the tiles.
More progress after the jump!
After the floor was out in the kitchen I ripped up the carpeting in the dining room since I wanted to replace the flooring. I wanted to see the hardwood underneath to decide what flooring I wanted to do in both the kitchen and dining room. With the carpet out, I decided that I didn't like the hardwood that was underneath. The slats were uneven, gapped and/or missing. I found a great deal on some laminate flooring so I picked it up for the kitchen, dining room and third bedroom.
I also got started painting the living room/dining room. I chose a light gray color for three sides of the area and a nice blue color for one of the walls that stretches across both rooms. I ended up painting several times because I kept missing holes that needed patching. After I thought I was done I realized I didn't like the trim job I did so I taped everything off and made the lines a lot cleaner.
Stay tuned for some exterior shots!
